Keeping score for 1t.org U.S. pledges

The 1t.org U.S. Chapter is committed to track annual progress on pledged activities with your help. The Pledge form on the 1t.org U.S. Chapter website is where corporations, nonprofits, and government entities can submit their pledge towards the conservation, restoration and reforestation of 1 trillion trees within this decade.

For each pledge registered with the U.S. Chapter, we will require you to file an annual report within each 12 month period after you submit your pledge. The 1t.org U.S. Annual Pledge Report is an easy way to report on implementation of action over the prior year, quantify outputs and outcomes, and to highlight new collaborative partners and enhanced areas of focus. This will enable all stakeholders to understand the progress made to date, lessons learned and opportunities to collaborate in the future. To download the report form in word format, click here.

For pledging entities that are pledging in trees or acres, please report progress towards the pledge in those metrics.

For pledging entities that have pledged in another metric (e.g., carbon, dollars), please report progress towards the pledge in those metrics.

All pledging entities are invited to (1)  provide a detailed narrative description of the progress made on all aspects of the pledge over the previous year;  and/or (2) upload digital evidence of tree conservation and restoration in the form of shape files, GIS maps, remote sensing imagery or other documentation.

Regardless of which reporting method(s) you choose, entities making a pledge to the U.S. Chapter are required to annually document progress in fulfilling their pledges using the online form. These outcomes will be verified by the 1t.org U.S. Chapter Secretariat and then uploaded to the 1t.org U.S. Chapter digital platform to demonstrate both entity and Chapter-wide progress.

For “Conserve” projects, this will include a reporting of any new actions during the 12-month period that ensured an increase in the number of acres conserved and/or trees protected. You can also report on carbon sequestration, responsible & equitable forestry, and other co-benefits that you are tracking.

For “Restore and Grow” projects, this includes the number of trees actually planted and/or acres regenerated, the location of these plantings, and deductions for any known mortality that occurred within 12 months of a planting. You can also report on carbon sequestration, responsible & equitable forestry, and other co-benefits that you are tracking.

For “Supporting Actions”, this will include a simple narrative report describing launches and achievements of any of the pledged actions, including quantifications of impacts wherever possible.

It is our intent for the reporting to be concise and efficient, drawing on readily available information and aligning with emerging reporting and accounting frameworks. 1t.org is also working to complement reporting with global and regional monitoring systems, geospatial mapping technologies and the accounting for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. 1t.org U.S. Chapter Secretariat staff will be available for technical assistance and will review and provide feedback as reports are completed. More formal site visits and verification may be conducted by the Secretariat with a small number of pledging entities each year to assess reporting trends and accuracy.
