Caribbean Tree Planting Project will advance the goals of 1t.org by building upon the successful launch of the first-ever regional Caribbean Tree Planting Week during the period July 5 to 11, 2021. The regional action of planting trees was in response to Caribbean climate change of rising sea levels, frequent hurricanes, changes in weather patterns, longer dry seasons and shorter wet seasons- which are all contributors to the intensity of natural disasters. The Caribbean contributes less than one percent to the world’s greenhouse emissions, yet we bear the brunt of the social, economic, and environmental devastation caused by climate change. The event highlighted the achievements of the Caribbean Tree Planting Project (CTPP) which had engaged 22 Caribbean countries/territories, with diverse representation of farmers, agriculturists including government, academia, non-governmental and private organizations. The CariPhilAlliance collaborated with 4,854 youths (under 35) and 347 organizations who contributed to the planting of 1,517,463 trees across the Caribbean during the period February 2020 to June 2021.
For 2022, CariPhilAlliance will expand its regional collaboration and support national tree planting and related activities across at least 20 Caribbean countries/territories to plant 2 million trees during the period July 2021 to December 2022; and organize a Caribbean Tree Planting Week, involving educational and community-based tree-planting activities in 2022.
