Total Trees Pledged: 1,000Supporting actions: Nursery Development, Workforce Development, Environmental Education,
The Green Team of Niles Discovery Church will raise varieties of oak and Buckeye seedlings, transplant them into larger containers at the Tri-City Urban Forest Alliance (TUFA) for eventual planting in the cities of Fremont, Newark, Union City and surrounding areas. For the 2021 planting season, 275 oak seedlings were raised at individual homes for collection and transplanting onto containers. The Green Team will recruit members and other volunteers for re-planting sessions at the nursery. Green Team members will enroll in classes to learn how to plant and care for young trees in a variety of conditions. With drought conditions in California, providing the appropriate amount of water is an important consideration that is included in this training.
