Pledge by Nordson Green Earth Foundation
Planting 1000 Trees in Illinois by 2030
Engaging Chicago communities to plant and grow native trees and tiny forests.Supporting actions: Environmental Education,
Nordson Green Earth plants native trees and ecosystems around Chicagoland. Our pledge is not only to plant trees but also to enhance the biodiversity of Illinois with native plants, pollinator gardens and soil enhancement. We engage with communities to do our work by speaking at schools and neighborhoods to educate about climate change, tree planting and maintenance, tree equity and the health benefits of trees. We usually complete 2-3 planting projects a year with dozens of engagement and education activities during the same amount of time.
We work with local school children and engage them around tree planting. We also go into the schools and other science venues (fairs and science centers) and teach about soil health, pollinators, native plants and the health benefits of trees.
Our goal is to plant around 150 trees a year. We have developed a committee of residents in the area which we plant which informs our future
actions. We are developing a plan for long-term maintenance of our planting sites which includes training on watering, weeding and invasive removal.
