Restore Nature to Solve Climate Change
Supporting actions: Sustainable Forestry, Avoided Deforestation, Data and Technological Tools, Science and Technical Assistance, Forest Product Markets and Innovation, Conservation Finance,
Pachama was founded in 2018 with the mission of restoring nature to solve climate change. Pachama's vision is to restore and protect forests at the pace and scale that is needed to achieve the global ambition of balancing anthropogenic GHGs to net zero by 2050.
Pachama harnesses remote sensing and machine learning to measure and monitor the climate benefit of forest carbon projects. We create tech-enabled tools for landowners to enter carbon markets and chart a pathway for economically sustainable livelihoods and thriving forest communities based on intact and restored forests.
Further, Pachama applies cutting-edge technology to make carbon offsets and offsetting tangible and accessible for companies and individuals. Pachama arms carbon credit buyers with the science-based data they need to make project investment decisions with confidence. Through virtual engagement tools and interactive web features, Pachama communicates the human element of carbon projects and the benefits of forests for natural ecosystems where the projects are located. These efforts contribute directly to scaling finance for forest conservation and restoration projects with measurable climate outcomes.
Today, Pachama supports 31 forest projects in 12 countries that protect and restore more than 1.6M hectares of forest land. Our technology directly channels funding into the 31 projects, and our mission is to more than double our impact by 2030.
Pachama only partners with carbon projects that demonstrate adherence to Pachama's Project Standard, which includes sustainable forest management criteria. Further, we develop deep due diligence documentation to understand and communicate free prior informed consent processes, the role of communities in project governance, as well as benefit sharing mechanisms of all projects we partner with. These information guide our partnership decisions and support our mission to bring additional visibility to forest conservation and restoration projects.
