Treepoints community pledge to plant over 100 million trees by 2030
Total Trees Pledged: 100,000,000Supporting actions: Avoided Deforestation, Tree Protection through Management, Workforce Development,
Treepoints is a social enterprise that provides individuals and businesses with a simple way to take meaningful climate action. Once we have helped our members understand their carbon footprint, we give them the chance to support the most effective climate improvement projects. These include tree planting, ocean plastic removal, and verified carbon reduction programmes, all for as little as a few dollars each month.
Not only do we ensure that our projects provide the greatest possible benefit in reducing the impact of climate change, but we also aim to support the world’s most vulnerable communities. These groups are often the least responsible for climate change, but the most negatively impacted by it. By planting millions of trees across Africa, Asia, and South America, we ensure all our trees are native species, support local communities and provide job opportunities for local people.
The Treepoints 100 million tree pledge will see us plant over 1 tree for each person living in the UK by 2030, and will have captured around 30,807,250 tonnes of CO2e by 2080.
This pledge reflects our seriousness here at Treepoints in halting the climate crisis. With the help of our business members and community subscribers, we will continue to do everything we can to create a healthy world for future generations.
Eden Reforestation Projects
When deciding which tree planting projects to support, we prioritise those that most effectively consider Treepoints tree planting principles, such as effective forest management and support for local communities. Although our forest protection projects (REDD+) are not included in our 100 million tree pledge, we support the preservation and development of existing forests to ensure they continue to act as essential carbon sinks and support thriving ecosystems.
When choosing our tree planting projects, alongside our added support for forest preservation projects, we ensure they align with the highest standards. In the case of offsetting projects, we only support those that adhere to the highest reputable certification, most notable the Verified Carbon Standard and the Gold Standards. Both standards ensure all projects have effective forest management and support at least three additional Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Regarding tree planting, we upload the Treepoints tree planting principles. These include the planting of native and appropriate trees to the planting location, supporting the development of local communities and jobs, and ensuring the maximum development of biodiversity and ecosystems.
Concerning job creation, we ensure they support not only short-term employment, such as tree planting and forest creation, but also long-term jobs, such as forest preservation and non-wood based economic activities.
All our tree planting and forest protection projects must also provide routine reports on their progress, including their location, tree growth progress, tree survival rate, and the number of short and long-term staff employed.
